Dr. Amaya received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1984, in Medical Technology from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Dr. Amaya earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1991, from Pontificia Javeriana University, in Bogota, Colombia.

Dr. Amaya completed his residency in Family Medicine at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan in 1997. In 1998, he completed a Geriatrics Fellowship at Sun Health / St. Joseph’s Hospital and granted a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Geriatrics by the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Amaya Joined Sun Life Health in 1998.

Dr. Amaya is Board Certified in Family Practice and welcomes patients of all ages. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and the Arizona Academy of Family Practice.

Dr. Amaya and his wife have two children. He enjoys traveling, playing golf and tennis. He was ranked #1 in Colombia for three consecutive years, and also played in the Varsity Tennis Team at Michigan State University.
